Roof, Skylight & Grounds Maintenance For Direct Healthcare Group
Direct Healthcare Group brought us in to clean up the exterior of their Caerphilly site, from the skylights and roof drainage down to the weeds at ground level. We've looked after it quarterly ever since.
Project Overview
The site needed high-level roof cleaning, skylight cleaning, gutter and drainage clearance, pressure washing, heavy weeding and general grounds maintenance. It’s a large commercial building, so no single method could cover everything.
What started as a one-off clean is now a standing arrangement, with the team back on site every quarter.
Roof, Skylight & Gutter Cleaning
Dirt, moss, leaves and organic debris had gathered across the roof, and most of it had settled where it caused the most trouble, which was in the gutters, gullies, valleys and drainage points.
To clear it, we reached the higher roof areas with an articulating boom MEWP and thoroughly cleaned the skylights using extendable poles.
The works included:
- Cleaning of roof skylights
- Full gutter clearance
- Clearing of roof gullies and valleys
- Downpipe checks and clearance
- Cleaning of the main roof area above reception
- Removal of accumulated moss, leaves and general roof debris
A SkyVac gutter vacuum, extendable poles, scrapers and commercial pressure washers were used throughout.
Working At Height
The building’s size and layout made access the key challenge with this clean.
An articulating boom MEWP gave us safe reach to the high-level roof and skylights, and let us work efficiently around a site that was still operating. As with all our commercial clients, we kept site-specific RAMS and the right PPE in place throughout.
Grounds & External Cleaning
At ground level, the weeds had taken hold, with heavy growth and debris across hardstanding, kerb lines, paved areas and the rest of the external ground.
On the ground we carried out:
- Extensive weed and vegetation removal
- Cutting back heavier growth with petrol strimmers
- Mechanical cleaning using petrol-powered bristle brushes
- Pressure washing of selected paved and hardstanding areas
- Leaf blowing and debris clearance
- General rubbish and vegetation removal
- Cleaning and tidying of access routes, car park areas and external surroundings
The site is big enough that we worked through it methodically, with the remaining areas booked into the next maintenance visits.
Ongoing Quarterly Maintenance
Rather than treating it as a one-off clean, Direct Healthcare Group now have us on a quarterly schedule.
Each visit keeps on top of:
- Roof drainage systems
- Gutters, gullies and downpipes
- Skylights and roof areas
- Weed and vegetation growth
- Hardstanding and paved areas
- Loading bays and external access areas
- General external cleanliness and presentation
Cleaning little and often stops the build-up from getting away from us, and keeps the site presentable all year rather than twice a year.
The Result
Skylights that let light in again, roof drainage running the way it should, and a site clear of the vegetation that had taken hold at ground level. The difference was obvious from the car park before anyone looked up.
A site this size needs more than one skill set on the same visit. Working at height, pressure washing and grounds work all came into it, and we handled the lot without bringing anyone else in.
