Cardiff Council Park Cleaning Case Study

Multi-Site Parks Cleaning For Cardiff Council

Cardiff Council asked us to clean seven of its parks around the city, and every one of them stayed open to the public while we worked.

Project Overview

Across the seven parks there was hardstanding, paving, playground surfacing, street furniture and signage to clean, and no two sites had built up dirt in quite the same way. Access differed at every park, and so did the water supply. That variety is what made the programme a real test of how we work. Each site needed its own plan, and each one had to be delivered while the public carried on using it.

Pressure Washing & Surface Restoration

Most of the surfaces had a build-up of dirt, organic growth and staining that needed a proper deep clean to shift.

We pressure washed:

  • Paved and hardstanding areas
  • Playground and recreational areas
  • Rubberised and tiger mulch play surfaces, where suitable
  • Benches and street furniture
  • Signs and the ground around them
  • Paths and pedestrian routes
  • Any other public-facing surfaces with heavy contamination

We used commercial pressure washers with surface-cleaning attachments throughout, which gives an even finish without the striping you get from a lance on its own.

Bringing Our Own Water

Mains water was hard to come by at several of the seven parks, and at some there wasn’t a usable supply at all. So we brought our own. We turned up with a 650-litre tank on board, so the team could keep cleaning without waiting for anyone to find a tap.

The larger parks needed the most thought. Once the main clean is done, every area has to be rinsed and washed down properly, and that uses a lot of water.

Working Around The Public

Every park stayed open for the full programme.

We worked to site-specific RAMS and kept the areas we were cleaning separate from the areas people were using. When foot traffic picked up, we paused or moved the work until it was safe to carry on.

Running Several Sites At Once

The programme covered seven separate parks across Cardiff, so equipment, water, transport and the cleaning schedule had to be planned site by site.

The parks we cleaned:

  • Clare Gardens
  • Maindy Park Playground
  • Maltins Park
  • Cogan Gardens
  • McKenzie Park
  • Howard Gardens
  • Grange Gardens

We assessed each park individually before starting, and the method changed depending on the surface, contamination level, and access.

The Result

The parks and play areas we treated came up much cleaner, with the built-up contamination gone and the surfaces looking looked after again.

It’s the kind of council work we’re well set up for as a professional pressure washing company. We can run several public sites at once, work safely with visitors around and bring our own water when a site doesn’t have any.
